Keeping Errors At Bay
Toulmin's Model of Argument of the text 'Keeping Errors At Bay'
Bertrand Russell (18 May 1872 – 2 February 1970)
Claim:
Errors can be avoided by following simple steps.
Ground:
To avoid errors you should
observe everything before doing any act, have knowledge and be aware of the other’s
people perspective different from your own. You must be able to argue with your
own imaginary character. You shouldn’t be too proud of yourself. You should try
to be less dogmatic and cocksure through realizing the possible reasonableness
of a hypothetical opponent. You should be very wary of your opinions that
flatter over your self-esteem. Likewise, conquering the fear with wisdom and
pursuit of the truth rather than following superstitious taboos can drastically
improve your error making attempts.
Warrant:
The rules provided in the ground can be followed as they are very simple and realistic. You don’t need to be an expert or genius to avoid errors. You just need to avoid some simple habits and follow above mentioned stuffs.
Backing:
Observing everything around you and calculating what to
speak or how to act can greatly help to prevent errors. Being aware of the
people’s perspective helps you to see universally. Arguing with own character
can sharpen your debate skills and make them logistic plus error free.
Likewise, loosing fear welcomes efficiency in the work with less errors.
Following or accepting the taboos generate long term errors. Keeping aside
these kind of superstitions can also keep aside all the errors that you are
making.
Rebuttal:
Mistakes happen. Human error is the part of the
development of civilization. You don’t need to worry about mistakes but worry
about how quickly you can learn from them. So, it doesn’t seem necessary to
bound yourself with set of rules to avoid something that has benefited your
kind from ages.
Qualifier:
Even minimal errors can lead
to terrors. More often we make errors because we are not able to follow the
simple rules and stick to the basics while making an opinion. A simple
misunderstanding and lack of integrity can even break a worldwide war. So,
these errors can be avoided, they certainly should be. And doing this, keeping
the errors at bay- is really simple once you get used to.
