Swan Song
Toulmin's Model of Argument of the text 'Swan Song'
Claim
Svetlovidov loved his career of acting.
Ground
After his service in the military, Svetlovidov joined the
theater in the early age. Now, he is a 68 years old man and still serving as the
lead actor. During the course of his career, he fell in love with a woman. He
decided to keep a marriage proposal in front of her. She rejected the proposal
by saying she would marry Svetlovidov, only if he would leave his job on the
theater. Svetlovidov didn’t accept the condition and left her for his career.
He was always appreciated for his talent in acting of which he was very fond
off. He spent his whole life in acting.
Warrant
Ground with the evidence regarding the love life of
Svetlovidov proves our claim to be correct. The narrator gave his whole life in
acting despite of all the critics that he received during the time period.
Svetlovidov had number of chances to choose a different career paths but he
didn’t. He could have gone with her lover and spent a different life or he
could also have done something associated with military.
Backing
Love is something around which people revolve their life
cycles. They basically can’t live without it. Everyone needs a touch of care,
warmth of proclivity and feeling of respect just as much they need air to
breathe. Svetlovidov also had a chance to feel all of that. But he chose not to
because he loved his career more. Not only the love of his life, his audience
who liked only his talent but not him also couldn’t make him choose a different
career plan.
Rebuttals
His lamentation over his past life after being drunk shows a
different road. It seems as if he regretted all of his choices that he made in
the past. Hence, he feels extremely down and lonely.
He breathes for his love of acting. He never left his career
no matter the circumstances. He didn't care about the love of his life and
other critics. Hence, Svetlovidov loved his career of acting.
